SUCCESS BEYOND LIMITS 2011
In our first Real Change pilot project, SkyWorks partnered with Success Beyond Limits, a youth mentorship and empowerment program in Toronto’s Jane and Finch community, to do an intensive seven-week film training project with five youth. The project was made possible with support from the Toronto District School Board’s Focus on Youth summer employment program.
Participants researched, directed, shot and edited two short films, one about Focus on Youth and the other about Success Beyond Limits. Professional HD video cameras, sound and editing equipment were provided by Charles Street Video.
Christopher Penrose, Executive Director of Success Beyond Limits, comments:
"Our goal is to expose youth to new horizons, new career fields, opportunities and experiences that broaden their view of how they see themselves, their communities and what's possible. [SkyWorks' filmmaking] workshop was a huge success. The youth all had their horizons expanded. I've seen each of them refer to themselves differently in the school and community, in terms of the skills they have and how they define themselves. It was very beneficial and life altering for the youth who were a part of it. This is a great example of the type of investments we need to be making in youth."
